The Rat Pack is a 5-reel online video slot game based on the famous musical group of the 60’s, only the slot game is designed in cartoon style and is literally a “rat pack”, as it stars singing and instrument-playing rats upon a stage. Playing a jazz soundtrack, the game is feel-good, soothing and glamorous…I’m not sure how rats can be associated with glitz and glamour but somehow this game manages it! 30 pay lines are on offer as well as the chance to win an enormous 30,000 coins.

The stage-lit reel symbols consist of the rats in the jazz band (higher win symbols) and playing cards (lower win symbols). The scatter icon is represented by the golden cymbals, and 3, 4 or 5 of these landing on your reels will win you free spins. There is a unique twist to the Rat Pack free spins feature; players are not awarded a specific number of free spins, but instead, the more you win, the longer you can spin. Free spin wins can only be generated by the scatter cymbals icon. These are held on the reel and nudged down one position, whilst the remaining reels spin again. The aim is to keep landing the scatter icon, because your free spins session ends when there are no more scatters left on the reels.

The Rat Pack also offers 2 types of Wilds. There is the 2X symbol which substitutes all but the scatter and awards doubled wins when it features on a winning line as a substitute. Secondly, there is the game logo Wild. This substitutes all symbols but the scatter and the 2X Wild.

Also featured within The Rat Pack is the chance to double or quadruple any winnings in the base game by using the gamble feature.

Verdict

This is a decent game to add to Microgaming’s impressive catalogue; the theme is pleasant and vibrant enough, however I’d have liked to have seen another bonus feature, perhaps – or at least for this bonus feature to be triggered more often. Of course, the gamble feature can be played to add a little thrill too, if you like to take a risk here and there.
